In our society today, the love of money has become the root of all evil. 1 Timothy 6:10 clearly
states, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have
wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." This scripture is true, because
the misuse of money has affected our economy, housing, gas prices and job loss. Because of greed
we don't have or are struggling to keep the things that we once had. Our society tells us to get a
job, pay our bills, buy a home, a nice car and provide for our families. There's nothing wrong with
that. As a matter of fact, 1 Timothy 5:8 says, "But if anyone does not provide for his own, and
especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." But
God's request was for us to take care and provide for our families, and not to acheive these goals
by doing the wrong things to get there. Alot of us are in debt. We have maxed out our credit cards
and refinanced our homes to acheive the impossible dream or to live like the Jones'. When we know
that God's will doesn't support it. God doesn't want us to be in debt trying to live like someone else.
We are not to covet or want what our neighbors have. It's a sin. God's blessings for them, may
not be his blessing for us. And doing whatever it takes to get there, may not be God's will.
Ecclesiastes 5:10 says, "Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is
never satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless." So if we are doing things just for money,
we will never be satisfied, it's a waste of time.

How shouldn't Christians manage their money? One thing we should try not to do is borrow money.
Proverbs 22:7 says, "The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender." We all
face hard times and may need help, but trusting God for our help is the answer and not just a hand
out. We shouldn't take bribes. Proverbs 17:8 says, "A bribe is a charm to the one who gives it;
wherever he turns, he succeeds." We don't want to be desperate for the things we want and
accept it from someone who means us harm. We also shouldn't stress about becoming rich.
Because material possessions are temporary and when we die we can't take it with us. But
spending eternity with God is forever. For Proverbs 11:4 says, "Wealth is worthless in the day of
wrath, but righteousness delivers from death." And Proverbs 28:20 also states that, "A faithful man
will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished." So as long as we are
faithful to God and his will, he will give us the desires of our hearts. And lastly we can't be lazy or a
sluggard regarding our money. Proverbs 6:6-11 says, "Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its
ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest. How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up
from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest - and poverty will
come on you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man." So we must spend our money with
reason and save for a rainy day.

So how should Christians manage their money? The Bible says we should be wise with our money.
We are supposed to save our money, but not hoard it. We should spend our money wisely and be
cheerful givers. 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 says, "Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap
sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do just as he has
purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." We
should give back to God with our tithes and offerings. And we are to help others in need with God's
holy spirit directing us. It's not bad to be rich, but it's wrong to love money. And if you are
struggling with saving money, think about how wise you are spending it. God doesn't want us to
worry about money, it's not his will. We are to put all of our trust in Him and He will take care of our
needs and maybe some wants too.
