Remember “Follow The Leader?”

follow the leaderDid you ever play “follow the leader” when you were a kid?

We would have a number of neighborhood kids and cousins (in my case) that would appoint someone as the leader of the group.  Whatever they did, we had to repeat it.  And this game lasted until we got tired or someone became angry at the leader – usually because we had to do something that we didn’t want to do…

This game reminded me just how we are to be with Jesus.  We should “follow the leader” when it comes to following Jesus and His teaching.  When Jesus began teaching and preaching, he appointed 12 disciples to follow Him.  He wanted them to continue His work on earth after He descended back to heaven.

Jesus knew that there would be a lot of work to do.  There would be a lot of souls that needed to be saved.  So He made a request to the disciples to preach and teach His word to the lost.  For Matthew 9:37-38 says “Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.  Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

God wanted to give Israel (the first harvest) the first chance to accept Jesus – but they rejected Him (Matthew 10:5).  But then the disciples were allowed to go everywhere and preach the Gospel to all Gentiles (the second harvest) – who are you and me.  Thank God our salvation came through the Jews – because we couldn’t have gotten it on our own!

So how do I become a follower?

You have to follow the example of Jesus and His word.  Jesus gave us (his disciples) the power to drive out impure spirits (demons) and to heal every disease and sickness (Matthew 10:1).  He knew we needed the Holy Spirit’s help to minister and be able to go into this world and conquer Satan.  And He showed us by His example.

There are people to minister to.  There are people to nurture.  There are people to love…. There’s a lot of work to do in God’s kingdom.  Unfortunately, there are people who are not willing to do the work.

Sometimes we may not want to follow all of the ways of the leader – because it’s downright hard work or we don’t like the direction we are going in! We don’t want to minister to our loved ones, friends or even strangers. But we have to follow this leader – Jesus, for all His wisdom, guidance and support.  Because this leader won’t steer us wrong…

The Modern Twist On The Swingers Club

the modern twist on the swingers clubOne of Nightline’s late evening news topics on Monday, May 21st touched on the inside secret to the  Swingers club.   And as I was watching this show, they spoke about how there is a new modern-day twist with young married couples who choose to swap out partners.

Swapping out partners or “swingers” are nothing new.  Swingers are married or unmarried couples who are looking to “spice up” their sexual relationships by allowing other married or unmarried couples and singles to join them.

Couples who openly swing or swap partners for a night of passionate sex with strangers, are becoming a growing trend in a sort of new sexual relationship revolution – and those who swing say the rest of us monogamists are missing out.

National surveys suggest as many as 60 percent of marriages involve cheating. One study conducted by the University of Washington Center for the Study of Health and Risk Behaviors showed that in the last two decades, the number of unfaithful wives under the age of 30 increased by 20 percent and number of unfaithful husbands under 30 increased by 45 percent.

The modern twist with today’s swingers consist of being:

  • young and attractive
  • not jealous
  • being open
  • dating as a couple

The swinging websites have noticed an increase of young women joining their sites – it’s not for the 35-50+ yr old couples anymore of the 70′s.  They are seeking other couples to engage in sex and seem to justify what they are doing – as ok.  Some couples feel as long as they don’t “kiss” then they are not being as intimate.  And others say “swinging, instead of cheating, has saved their relationships.”

Even though this is the new way of looking at swinging – swinging is still not acceptable in God’s eyes.  In other words, adultery is adultery is adultery!  Just because both married couples choose to live a lifestyle where others are invited, doesn’t mean its right.

Leviticus 20:10 says “If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife – with the wife of his neighbor – both the adulterer and the adulteress are to be put to death.”  When God ordained marriage, he ordained it between a man and a woman to be pure.  For Hebrews 13:4 says “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.”  

This so-called modern twist on being a swinger again is nothing new.  Satan has convinced our youth once again that something old is new again.  He wants the purity of marriage to become impure because it goes against God.

Swapping out partners can also promote:

  • Additional promiscuity. You may want to continue venturing out (without your partner) to fulfill more and more desires.
  • Jealousy.  Even though jealousy is not supposed to be a factor.  After sometime, your spouse may desire or compliment the other partner more.  Or may even want to spend more time with that partner.
  • Sexual transmitted diseases or unwanted pregnancies.  Being safe is supposed to be the number one factor in all of this.  But after spending time with the same partners or “being in the moment” can create times where practicing safe sex goes out the door.  And as we know, nothing is full proof, so sometimes an unwanted pregnancy can become a factor that ultimately changes lives.

Young people today have to realize that these types of lifestyles are only temporary fixes to bigger problems.  It seems as though this modern take on swinging eliminates responsibility of being truly monogamous to their spouse. It gives them an “out” to cheat.

God will forgive the adulterer – if they only ask.  But when you are living a lifestyle that goes against God’s word on purpose, then that’s another story.

Demons: The Secret To Driving Them Out Of Your Home!

Demons: Are they welcome in your home?Some of you may have read about demons who possessed and took over various people’s bodies in the bible.  Some of you have seen demon possessed people on T.V. or the movies – like the Exorcist.  And some of you may have experienced it first hand…

Demons are not make-believe beings.  Demons are real, supernatural beings according to the bible and they are also known as Satan’s helpers, sidekicks, besties, flunkies and slaves.

But what is a demon? “A demon is a supernatural, often malevolent being prevalent in various religions, occultism, literature, and folklore.  A demon is considered an “unclean spirit” which may cause demonic possession, calling for an exorcism.” (Wikipedia)

Demons do what they are told by Satan.  Satan can’t be everywhere at one time, like God, so he appoints his demons to go places that he cannot – one of them being your home.

Yes your home! If you didn’t realize by now, Satan and his demons do the most damage at home.  They know they can get into your kids, your spouse and even yourself to wreak havoc on your family and its values.

Some of their work include:

  • Insecurity
  • Low self-esteem
  • Depression
  • Disobedience
  • Back talk
  • Adultery
  • Divorce
  • Anger
  • Promiscuity

And the list goes on when it comes to negativity in our homes.  Sometimes Christians don’t have a problem telling someone else how to live their lives, but can’t or won’t change the problems in their own families.  We can be in denial about the issues that we are having.  We may find ourselves pointing the finger… But as the saying goes “when you point your finger at someone else – four fingers are pointing back at you.”

We have to remember that God allows Satan and his demons to tempt you.  His purpose is to see how you will react or if you will turn to him for help to escape.  But as we all know, sometimes the “demonic” life looks and feels real good – even enticing.  And we may fall right into the trap.  But God says in 1 Corinthians 10:21 “You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons.”  In other words – you have to choose.

So what’s the secret?

If you are having issues with your family or with yourself and want help – I have good news for you!  Jesus gave us authority through the Holy Spirit to cast out demons.  Matthew 10:8 says, “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons.  Freely you have received; freely give.”

We can’t cast out demons by ourselves – we need God’s help!  But he has clearly given us the authority to do so.  When demons try to enter into your home, rebuke them in the name of Jesus, then they will go away!  Even the demons believe and tremble at the name of God… (James 2:19)

As Christians, we have all the arsenal that we need – God’s word and prayer (which really shouldn’t be a secret – but a reminder).  And once you learn how to read it and use it in your lives, the next time Satan and his demons try to invite themselves into your home – just post a big NOT WELCOME sign at your front door. I think they will get the point…

Why Yoga Can Kill You!

why yoga can kill you!When I started noticing yoga coming back into mainstream, I was like most of you.  I thought it was another exercise to help strengthen the body and lose weight.  It was all over T.V. and offered in the gyms as another popular exercise.

But the more I saw yoga and how it seemed to explode, I started feeling like something was wrong.  When I noticed how people were “meditating” and moving their bodies, it looked like a spiritual worship, rather than just another exercise.

And I started thinking that if I felt this way, maybe others probably felt this way too.  I was going with the flow to believe yoga was just another great exercise – nothing spiritual.

But as I researched Yoga and its origins, I found out, in short, that the yoga philosophy is to unite one’s transitory or temporary self with the infinite Brahman, which is the Hindu concept of God.  This god is not a being, but is a spiritual entity that is one with nature and the cosmos.

Yoga is an ancient practice from India.  The yoga philosophy makes no distinction between man and God.  The practice of yoga is based on the belief that man and God are one…. All false religions seem to offer some higher knowledge that promises peace, success, happiness and tranquility in life.  But don’t be fooled – yoga can kill you and here’s why:

  • It’s not innocent. It is a path to spiritual growth through Hindu gods.
  • It is more than a simple health program.  It teaches a person to focus on himself instead of God – which is self worship.
  • It encourages people to seek answers to difficult questions of life within themselves instead of in the Word of God - it’s disguised as spirituality.

But again, Satan is a deceiver.  His job is to kill you!  He continues to use anything he can to turn us away from God, in order to worship worthless, idol gods.  For 2 Kings 17:15 says, “They rejected his decrees and the covenant he had made with their fathers and the warnings he had given them.  They followed worthless idols and themselves became worthless.  They imitated the nations around them although the Lord had ordered them. “Do not do as they do,” and they did the things the Lord had forbidden them to do.” 

If you are looking for an exercise program to take care of your body, there are numerous healthy options that are available to you.  But it is not wise for a Christian to be involved in yoga – even so-called “Christian yoga.”  Because it’s roots are grounded in the form of Satan, who is evil.

Christians have to educate ourselves and keep up with today’s society – for the sake of our families.  Unfortunately there are so many Christians looking like the world, instead of the world looking like Christians!

If you are having a hard time accepting this, feel free to research it for yourself.  Believe me, I had a hard time also… But God put this on my heart to reveal the truth – as the old saying goes “once you know better – you do better!”
