Being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He (Jesus) ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry. (Luke 4:2)
What is our primary weapon for resisting temptation? Answer: the Word of God.
While it’s great to carry a Bible in your briefcase or in your purse, the best place to carry the Word of God is in your heart. You need to know the Word of God, to memorize good chunks of it. Are you memorizing the Bible?
You might say, “It’s just too hard. I am not good with remembering things.” It’s amazing how much information our brains can retain. I know sports fanatics who can instantly recall the scores of their favorite teams, going back twenty years. You probably know someone who quotes lines out of movies, even if the film came out decades ago. And yet we say we can’t memorize the Word of God?
It is doable; it just takes some discipline. And nothing will help you more when you find yourself under spiritual attack.
