In this day and time, evil has become prevalent. From disrespectful behavior towards one another, to disregard for human life. Once upon a time, we tried to take care of one another, no matter the situation or circumstances, but as time goes on, it’s getting worse and worse. It has become hard to care and to love our neighbor. We as Christians shouldn’t be surprised, because the bible clearly tells us that this world is a sinful world, because of its evil ways. We are to live in the world, but not be of the world. This world belongs to Satan. Some people believe that Satan is a little red evil troll with horns on the top of his head. And others believe that he is an expression used to describe evil or that he doesn’t exist at all. Some people even believe that hell is here on earth and after we die, it’s not a physical place that some will spend eternal life. One night I watched a show called, Nightline on ABC. And the debate of the night was, “Does Satan Exist?” And I started thinking about the answer to this topic and the misconceptions that many in the world have about him. Because of our confusion and development of cults and many religions, I determined that this is clearly Satan at his best.
So who is Satan? And is he real? The bible gives us a clear portrait of who Satan is. Satan was created by God as a cherubim angel. He was once the most beautiful angel created and was elevated above the rest. For Ezekiel 28:12-14 says, “You were the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: ruby, topaz and emerald, chrysolite, onyx and jasper, sapphire, turquoise and beryl. Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created they were prepared. You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones. You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you.”
So what caused Satan to be cast out of heaven? Satan or Lucifer, which means “one who opposes,” became prideful and puffed up and wanted to sit on a throne higher than God and therefore become God. Because of his sin, God cast him out of heaven onto earth, as a ruler of this world. Ezekiel 28:16-17 says, “Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, O guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones. Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings.” Because God cast Satan out of heaven and allowed him to rule over the world, he uses people for his evil doings and ways, in an attempt to turn us away from God. And if we as people love the world and its worldly possessions, we are not of God. 1 John 2:15-17 says, “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world- the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does- comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.”
Easter Sunday is the day that Christians celebrate the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Jesus came down to earth to save us from sin, the devil, and eternal death, by allowing us to have eternal life with Him. When God cast Satan out of heaven, he promised him that he would only roam around earth for a short period of time. He then would be cast into the lake of fire forever, along with people who have believed and chose to follow him. We do have a choice to do evil or good, because God gave us free will. 1 John 3:8-10 says, “He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother.”
Now we as people can choose to believe in Satan or not. Is he real or not? Does he exist or not? When we were born, we were born into sin, because the world is evil. And when Christians accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior, we chose to believe that we would be forgiven for our sins and live eternally with him. For Revelation 12:7-10 and 20:10 says, “And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down – the ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.” And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.”
If you have chosen God and follow Him, Satan’s existence shouldn’t be debated. It just is. No matter if you believe or not – God said that one day, “Every knee will bow and every tongue must confess that Jesus (not Satan) is Lord.” Amen.
Here’s what you should do now…
